The Organ,
St Oswald’s Church, Collingham
Our pipe organ was last cleaned and an additional stop added in 1990 under the auspices of our late organist, Mr John Swain. Some twenty years have now passed and it has been identified that a cleaning and general overhaul is required to ensure its continuing reliable service. I have recently been given, for use at Collingham, a complete rank of quality trumpet pipes, These have come from a church in south Sheffield, where they are no longer required following the loss of their pipe organ when it was replaced by a digital instrument!
These trumpet pipes have been examined by Woods of Harrogate, our
current organ technicians, and also by J. Malcolm Spink, organ builders of Leeds. Both these firms consider that their inclusion on the Collingham organ would be a marked advantage to our organ’s stop specification. I have been authorised by St Oswald’s PCC to seek estimates for a clean and overhaul of the organ with inclusion of the trumpets as part of the project.
Whilst not losing sight of the current general financial situation, it is felt that to proceed with this project would be of long-term benefit to St Oswald’s and the wider community. This complete project is likely to cost around £6815. Already there have been various offers of fundraising, plus an anonymous donation. Perhaps you may feel able to offer support by a donation, interest free loan, or support of the fundraising events, which will be publicised over the coming autumn and winter months.
